OSS # 136: Goodbye

Thoughts on Klaudia Koronel’s Love Story

A few weeks ago, I saw an interview of a lesser known Filipino actress Klaudia Koronel in Star Talk. She was a former sexy actress who used her body to earn a living from daring movies. She had a boyfriend who looked down on her because of her lack of education and line of work. She knew how it was to feel like dirt.

She is beyond that now – way beyond. She put herself through school. When she graduated, she put up an online business (mabuhaycity.com). It was from that venture Klaudia met her future husband. They will have a church wedding (Iglesia ni Cristo) on August this year. The church wedding was something she was not willing to compromise. That meant her husband should embrace the same religion as she did.

In the interview, she was asked what message she would like to share to her fiancé. Close to tears she expressed her appreciation to her loving partner. She was somewhat apologetic. She said she was sorry if she was tough on her requirements, about converting to the same religion, about the church wedding.

She knows she deserves to be happy. Although she loves her man, she wanted to be happy realizing her own idea of happiness.

More than the love story between the man and woman, Klaudia’s story tells of another kind that may be of value – her self love story. These self love stories are nothing new but people tend focus mainly on the love between two (or more) people. They tend to forget the importance of loving the self.

Tania Kotsos shared interesting ideas (which need not be repeated here) in her article on self love. She noted that self love is not being arrogant, selfish, self-centered or egotistic. If everyone knew what self love was, would they hate their incapacity to change the past? If certain people had this in mind, would they feel lonely even if they are alone? If certain people shared the same sentiment, would they damage their being with actions they will later regret? Would they settle for something they feel they don’t deserve? If everyone only knew they deserve to be happy…

Note that self love is not a solution to all love problems but it is a major step towards a solution. Self love definitely cannot prevent a tragic ending for a love story but it certainly helps in a quicker recovery.

Speaking of self love, I think I need that myself. I decided to take the day off today. (By today I mean 13Feb2009. I don't get Blogger date.) I feel like I might get sick in the coming days if I don't rest. I have things planned for the weekend and I don't want to miss out on that.

Asking someone to embrace a religion which you do not believe in is unfair, IMHO.

Mr Scheez, That just means hindi kayo bagay ni Klaudia Koronel. Hehehe.

Theo Martin, I don't know if it can be taught. Listen to yourself. You are your best teacher of self love.

G, Waaah! Wag naman sana maging illegal yun.

Didi, good for you! Happy heart's day. :)
