In love with the Oldies
I have been enjoying old movies lately. One of which is the Alfred Hitchcock 50's classic Dial M for Murder starring Grace Kelly. This was remade in the late nineties starring Michael Douglas, Gwyneth Paltrow and Viggo Mortensen. The former was a bit talkie while the later action filled. If asked what was my favorite scene in the black and white movie, I'd say the 'wonderful breakdown' exchange. My partner says I'm sooo gay.
Another oldie I love is the movie version of the Broadway musical Fiddler on the Roof. It was that musical that popularized the songs like Matchmaker, Sunrise Sunset, and If I were a Rich Man. Gwen Stefani had a pop-ragga version of the last song entitled Rich Girl. This movie tackled a timeless topic - tradition. I wonder if this can be remade with a gay flavor. I think so.
If we are talking about classics, who could forget Lula Mae from Breakfast at Tiffany's? It introduced the popular song Moon River. Lines from the movie where used in a remix of Dmitri of Paris called A Very Stylish Girl. I particularly liked the taxi dialogue. To me, it was as if the guy was talking to a number of gay guys I know.
If there is one thing I learned about old movies is that we can always look back at the past, learn and make something new or something gay!
